Soy isoflavones belong to the family of phytoestrogens, which as their name indicates, have a pharmacological action on female sex hormones and are found naturally in certain plants. They are a group of plant substances present in soybean, a legume traditionally consumed in China, Japan and other eastern countries. Chemically isoflavones are polyphenols, a group of more than 6,000 different substances widely used among all products of plant origin.

They give color to many foods and have an antioxidant capacity in the body. Some polyphenols have phytoestrogenic capacity, that is, they can behave relatively similar to female estrogens but without being so and with milder effects.
